BECOMING A MEMBER

Membership is open to any person practicing arbitration, mediation or alternate dispute resolution who is of good character and reputation and satisfies the Membership Committee that they have obtained and maintained standards of academic achievement and professional experience consistent with the aims and objectives of the ADR Atlantic Institute.

Please Note: ADR Atlantic cannot process your application until payment is recieved.

ADR Atlantic will review your application and inform you of your membership status as soon as possible.

The information in your application will be used for the sole purpose of assessing your qualifications for membership.

If accepted as a Full member, your “basic information”, biography and resume, will be listed on our website for your public profile on our “ADR CONNECT” searchable directory of practitioners. If you wish to exclude certain fields from your ADR CONNECT profile, you may indicate so in your account under Communication Preferences. ADR Atlantic will use your e-mail and mailing address to send you information such as newsletters and event notices. You may unsubscribe at any time from certain emails via your Communication Preferences tab.

The membership year is January 1^st to December 31^st. If you are applying for membership part-way through the calendar year, membership fees are prorated quarterly.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES & FEES

Please note, the fees listed below are used by ADR Atlantic to defray the expenses associated with processing applications from members to hold designations.

FULL MEMBER

Persons of good character and reputation who have successfully completed an Institute-approved 40-hour course in arbitration or mediation or have equivalent expertise arising from experience in arbitration, mediation or alternate dispute resolution in Canada.

The basic membership fee for “Full” membership is $232.25 (plus HST) calculated as follows:

$135 plus HST for membership fees collected on behalf of ADR Institute of Canada;
$97.25 plus HST for membership with ADR Atlantic Institute.

NON-PRACTICING MEMBER

Non-practicing member, which allows individuals to secure membership during periods in which they are not practicing for any reason. Examples might include: long-term absence from practicing ADR; an individual interested in ADR that does not meet the Full Member criteria.

The basic membership fee for “Non-Practicing” membership is $97.25 (plus HST).

STUDENT MEMBER

Persons of good character and reputation who are enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies. Student membership allows individuals to secure membership while actively engaged in post-secondary studies and while the individual does not otherwise meet the requirements for full membership.

The basic membership fee for “Student” membership is $50.00 (plus HST).

DUAL MEMBER

Dual membership in ADR Atlantic is permitted for individuals who already hold membership in another ADRIC affiliate. In the case of a Dual membership, with the prior approval of ADRIC, the ADRIC portion of the membership fee for the Dual member will be waived, but the remainder of the regular membership fee must be paid. The Dual member will have all the rights, entitlements, and obligations of a regular member.

CORPORATE MEMBER

Corporate/organization/association member, which allows any number of employees of a corporation, organization, or association to receive membership under a single corporation/organization/association membership.

PAST MEMBER

Persons who have been members of ADR Atlantic and who decide to retire from ADR practice may continue to be listed as past members (inactive) at no charge for one year after their membership.

After this time their profile will be archived and no longer listed publicly. If the person continues to offer ADR services but declines to maintain membership then ADRAI will archive their profile immediately.

DESIGNATIONS APPLICATIONS PROCESSING FEE

In addition to the one-time processing fee, there are yearly fees payable to the National Organization (ADRIC) to hold the designations.

Chartered Arbitrator and Chartered Mediator Applications Fee: $200 plus HST

Qualified Arbitrator and Qualified Mediator Applications Fee: $100 plus HST
